About the CherryT Ball Drop


What is the CherryT Ball Drop?

The CherryT Ball Drop is an assumed name of The Festival Foundation, a 501(c)3 that will hold an annual New Year's Eve celebration. Funds raised through the CherryT Ball Drop supports local charities.

What does "CherryT" mean?

Since we are located in the cherry capital of the world, drop a larger cherry from the sky and give back to charities, CherryT is a fun play on words that represent this event and the local area.

How did the CherryT Ball Drop get started?

In 2008, a small group of Traverse City area residents got together and devised a way celebrate New Years Eve and give back to the community at the same time. In 2018, CherryT Board of Directors turned over the event to the Festival Foundation. A committee was then formed of former CherryT volunteers and many new volunteers from the Festival Foundation to work in conjuction to continue the great tradition that was started years ago!

How much money has the CherryT Ball Drop raised?

The CherryT Ball Drop has raised nearly $127,000 to date for local nonprofits. Including $16,496 in 2022/2023 for Goodwill Northern Michigan and Northwest Food Coalition!

What is the annual attendance?

Unofficially, it is estimated that between 8,000 and 12,000 people attend this event.



About the Event

When & Where is the CherryT Ball Drop event?

The large cherry drops from the sky as we ring in the New Year at Cass Street and Front Street every December 31. The gates open at 10:30pm and the event ends at 12:20am.

Who can attend the festivities?

This is a family friendly event that all can enjoy. Bundle up (it gets cold out there!) and bring the family to celebrate the New Year.

How much does it cost to attend?

We ask for a $5 donation per person to attend the CherryT Ball Drop. All funds raised go to local charities.

Can I see the CherryT Ball Drop from home?

Yes! Starting in 2018, the CherryT Ball Drop can be viewed on Facebook Live from the comfort of your home. Party in your Pajamas and give back at the same time!
